PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh subway project was completed in September, and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport is seeking for investors to fund the major project.
Mr. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister of Public Works and Transport, stated. “So far, we have completed the project study in collaboration with CCCC and have made recommendations to the company to improve the project.”
Prime Minister Hun Sen has directed that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport expedite the study and seek investment partners for the Phnom Penh subway project and to upgrade two existing railway lines from Phnom Penh to Poipet and Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville to the highspeed with 160 km/h.
The Cambodian government has previously stated that it supports the construction of a subway in Phnom Penh to improve public transportation in the capital and around Kandal province rather than a sky train like the one in Bangkok.
China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) is the parent company of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), which builds the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway.
