Over 12 million domestic tourists recorded in first seven months

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has registered more than 12 million domestic tourists in the first seven months of this year, according to a report of the Ministry of Tourism released on Sunday.

In July alone, almost 1.2 million internal visitors were counted, the same source pointed out.

July and August are generally low tourist seasons for Cambodia due to the rainy season and no national holidays during the two months, said the report, adding that the flow of visitors will regain momentum from September with the celebration of Kan Ben and Pchum Ben festivals and national holidays.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy, in addition to garment export, agriculture, construction, and real estate.

Cambodia is expected to receive up to 16 million domestic tourists in 2023, said the Ministry of Tourism.
