PHNO PENH: Chea Serey, the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), has been appointed as the new Governor of the NBC.
The appointment was made in a Royal Decree signed by King Norodom Sihamoni on July 29.
Serey is an economist with a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Adelaide, Australia. She has worked at NBC since 1999 and has held a number of senior positions, including Deputy Governor. She is also a member of various policy-driven committees within the central bank.
Serey’s appointment is a significant development for the banking sector in Cambodia. She is a highly respected figure in the industry and her appointment is seen as a sign of progress for women in Cambodia.
She is an outstanding female figure in the banking sector. She has played a significant role in reforming and developing Cambodia’s banking system, especially in promoting Riel, the national currency.
