Osaka Chamber of Commerce Pledges to Boost Investment and Bilateral Trade with Cambodia

TOKYO, JAPAN — In a move to strengthen economic ties, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has committed to actively promoting Cambodia’s investment potential across its member network. This initiative aims to accelerate capital flows and significantly expand bilateral trade between Japan’s Kansai region and Cambodia.

The commitment was highlighted during a high-level meeting on Friday, June 12, 2026, between Ms. Kyoko Hirose, Vice President of OCCI, and His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

Capitalizing on Cambodia’s Competitive Edge
During the discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol emphasized Cambodia’s strategic advantages, framing the nation as a secure and lucrative destination for Japanese investors. He underscored that the country offers complete political stability alongside a resilient macroeconomic environment. Furthermore, businesses can leverage a young, vibrant workforce and a highly flexible, attractive incentive package engineered under Cambodia’s new investment law, all backed by the government’s proactive approach to resolving investor challenges.

Mobilizing Over 30,000 High-Tech SMEs
A major focus of the meeting involved encouraging the more than 30,000 high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are members of OCCI to study, understand, and seize strategic opportunities in Cambodia. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol urged these tech-driven businesses to target the market, explicitly prioritizing key growth sectors such as advanced manufacturing, heavy industry, electronic components, and green technology.

Deepening the Strategic Pipeline
This high-level exchange further solidifies the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” between Cambodia and Japan. Beyond reinforcing traditional diplomatic ties, the meeting establishes a direct, high-value economic pipeline between Cambodian government institutions and Osaka’s private sector, paving the way for mutual economic growth and long-term national development.
