PHNOM PENH: H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), presided over the signing of a contract to construct a project to upgrade National Road No. 5 Central this morning (Thla Mam-Battambang and Serey Sophorn-Poipet). and with the joint venture of Construction Corporation No. 1 – JSC (CC1) and Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No. 6 – JSC (CIENCO6).
At the signing ceremony on Thursday, March 24, 2022, a representative of the building company, a representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a technical officer under the Ministry, and stakeholders all attended the signing ceremony on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
H.E Sun Chanthol expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its assistance and contributions to the renovation of Cambodia’s roads, bridges, ports, and other physical infrastructure, and he emphasized the importance of National Road No. 5, which connects Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam via National Road No. 1, forming the ASEAN Highway, in order to strengthen the national economy and make it wealthier, especially through traffic and transportation growth.
The Senior Minister highlighted the 100% completion of the 84.74-kilometer section of National Road No. 5 from Battambang-Serey Sophorn and officially inaugurated it under the high presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia since January 10, 2022. The section of National Road No. 5 from Prek Kdam to Thla Mam (Pursat) is scheduled to be completed next year.
The Senior Minister directed the building team to focus on quality first construction to ensure long-term use and to properly organize order and safety on the job site to avoid traffic accidents, particularly with regard to signage especially at night as there is security and illumination on the streets.
Mr. Le Huu Viet Duc was adamant that the signing was a requirement for the company to better comprehend its role in various building operations, contribute to the development of Cambodia’s infrastructure, and even build up the relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam, two adjacent countries, even stronger.
The fourth work package of the project to upgrade National Road No. 5’s central section (Thla Mam-Battambang and Serei Sophorn-Poipet) is set to be signed. It is expected to take 32 months (2 years and 8 months) and cost 52,561,773.93 USD.
