PHNOM PENH: Japan has encouraged Cambodia to increase its exports of agricultural products to Japan, as the current exports are still low.
The call was made by H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, in a roundtable discussion on Cambodia-Japan Relations, organized by the Cambodian Club of Journalists here in Phnom Penh on Sept. 26.
H.E. UENO Atsushi emphasized that needful assistance for Cambodia’s agricultural sector can be negotiated under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) to address the high transportation costs and trademark issues to boost exports.
ODA has supported Cambodia in environmental and agricultural development through the construction of irrigation and transport infrastructure, said the Japanese ambassador.
Japanese companies are also investing in Cambodia to process Cambodian pepper and cashew nuts for export to Japan.
Japan supports the import of Cambodian agricultural products through both the state and private sectors.
