PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport released the 2025 Annual Progress Report on the Implementation of the Comprehensive Master Plan for the Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033, outlining progresses of railway development projects.
The report, released on Feb. 24, stated that railway development in Cambodia focuses on rehabilitating and upgrading existing railways (northern and southern) to high-speed railways and considering new routes.
As of 2025, most railway projects are in the study phase, with the Phnom Penh-Poipet railway capacity upgrade project being studied by the Railway Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, CRBC, and Royal Railway.
Separately, a new railway construction project of Phnom Penh-Techo International Airport (Takhmao city, Kandal province) is being studied by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, added the report.
Siem Reap-Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (Sotr Nikum district, Siem Reap province) route is also in the study phase in collaboration with China’s firm.
According to the master plan, Cambodia needs an investment of approximately US$10 billion to develop a total of eight railway transport projects.
