Minister of Economy: Increase in Cambodia–US Trade Volume Reflects Strong Economic Ties and Supports Stability

PHNOM PENH: According to an AKP release today, the increase in trade volume between Cambodia and the United States reflects the strength of economic and trade ties, which contribute directly to managing macroeconomic stability.

The remarks were made during a meeting in which His Excellency Professor Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, received a courtesy call and held discussions with Ambassador Brian D. McFeeters, President and CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC).

The meeting was attended by representatives of the US Embassy in Cambodia, leaders of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and relevant colleagues, as well as representatives from 13 companies, including SC Johnson, Ford Motor, ConocoPhillips, Target, Coca-Cola, IMSG, Mastercard, VISA, Roche, RMA Group, Phillip Morris International, Abbott, and Vriens & Partners.

Welcoming Ambassador Brian D. McFeeters, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between Cambodia and the United States in strengthening trade relations and encouraging continued investment from American multinational companies. He highlighted that in 2025, total trade volume between Cambodia and the United States reached approximately 13 billion US dollars, while investment capital from the United States rose to approximately 1 billion US dollars.

This growth reflects the strength of economic and trade ties, contributing to the management of macroeconomic stability and maintaining the sustainability of Cambodia’s public finances over the medium to long term.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized Cambodia’s openness to all high value-added investment opportunities, particularly in priority sectors with high potential, including agro-industry, clean energy, digital, logistics, health, education, and modern technology.

Ambassador McFeeters praised and highly appreciated the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia to address relevant challenges, noting a significant improvement in the country’s investment and business environment during the two years of his tenure despite ongoing challenges. At the same time, the Ambassador asked companies operating in Cambodia to raise any new challenges they face and invited companies looking for investment opportunities to inquire about Cambodia’s investment potential.

In response to the specific requests and challenges raised by the 13 company representatives, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister outlined the Royal Government of Cambodia’s major structural reform process. This initiative aims to reduce complex administrative procedures to facilitate business, promote the digitalization of public services, strengthen compliance to ensure fair and equitable competition, and foster cooperation through the “Group D on Legislation, Taxation and Governance” mechanism of the Royal Government-Private Sector Forum to resolve challenges effectively, in a timely manner, and with policy predictability.

Furthermore, His Excellency advised companies seeking investment opportunities or currently operating in the country to cooperate directly with the relevant ministries and institutions in charge according to their respective expertise.

Following the discussion, Ambassador McFeeters promised to take this information and firsthand observations regarding the economic situation and business environment in Cambodia back to Washington, D.C. He noted that sharing these positive developments and realities will help attract further trade and investment from the United States, continuously strengthening the economic and trade ties between the two nations.
