Korean Investors Eye Cambodian Cosmetics Market Following Thailand Import Ban

PHNOM PENH — Korean investors are capitalizing on a major shift in Cambodia’s beauty industry following the country’s complete suspension of cosmetics imports from Thailand.

South Korean businesses are now exploring opportunities to both import high-quality products and establish direct manufacturing plants within Cambodia.

The strategic shift was highlighted by Dr. Suon Mi, President of the Association of VMove Entrepreneur Cambodia (VMove Cambodia), during a business matchmaking event at the Business Center in Koh Pich on June 5, 2025.

In response to the Thai import ban, VMove Cambodia partnered with LAB 10 KOREA and local stakeholders to host representatives from leading South Korean high-tech cosmetics manufacturers.

“We have completely halted cosmetics imports from Thailand,” Dr. Suon Mi stated. “Today’s collaboration aims to showcase Cambodia’s vibrant investment landscape and rally support for localized cosmetics production using Korea’s advanced technology.”

The partnership emphasizes South Korea’s reputation for rigorous safety standards and skin-safe technology, ensuring Cambodian consumers have access to premium, health-conscious beauty products.

Mr. Lee Sung Rak, representing the Korean cosmetics firm BRCOS, noted that the long-standing bilateral relationship between Cambodia and South Korea provides a strong foundation for this venture. He emphasized that the barrier to entry for local entrepreneurs is accessible.

“Cambodian business owners looking to partner with us to import skincare and cosmetics do not need massive capital,” Mr. Lee said. “We offer reasonable pricing structures to smoothly introduce these products to the local market.”

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia’s beauty market is on the rise. In 2025, the country imported approximately $130 million worth of beauty products—including lotions, perfumes, cosmetics, and body cleansers—marking a 1.67% increase compared to 2024.
