PHNOM PENH: Five communes in Kampong Speu province have been selected for the implementation of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a water-efficient irrigation technique aimed at enhancing climate resilience, improving rice quality, and increasing yields.
The announcement was made by Governor H.E. Cheam Chansophorn during a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Thanks Carbon Inc. and the Coalition for Partnership in Democratic Development (CPDD), held at the provincial hall on Aug. 5.

The selected communes, namely Po Mreal, Nitean, Po Chamroeun, Po Angkrang, and Preah Khae, are expected to undergo significant modernisation in rice cultivation, with the project poised to improve both agricultural productivity and local livelihoods.
This initiative marks a transformative step in rice production, said H.E. Cheam Chansophorn, adding that by leveraging existing resources and integrating smart agricultural techniques with research and development, it will build a more sustainable and prosperous future for our farmers.
The Governor also expressed gratitude to Thanks Carbon Inc. and CPDD for spearheading the project and affirmed the provincial administration’s full support for its successful implementation. AKP
