Japan Provides US$7.6 Million Grant to Strengthen Customs Functions

PHNOM PENH: The Government of Japan has decided to provide JPY 1.142 billion (approximately US$7.6 million) in grant aid to the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the implementation of the Project for the Reinforcement of Customs Functions at the Sihanoukville Port New Container Terminal.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), the project is one of two initiatives financed under Japan’s grant assistance to Cambodia.

The Exchange of Notes and accompanying documents on the extension of the grant aid were signed at the ministry in Phnom Penh this morning by H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia.

The second project, valued at JPY 1.7 billion (approximately US$11.3 million), is the Project for Integrated Mine Clearance and Landmine Victim Assistance (Phase 3).

“This grant assistance demonstrates Japan’s steadfast support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development, promoting its sustainable growth,” the MFAIC underlined. “It also serves as a testament to the deepening bilateral relations between Cambodia and Japan under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
