HE. Wang Wenbin Touts Cambodia’s Charm: Ancient Temples, Vibrant Culture, and Nature’s Beauty

PHNOM PENH: Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, HE. Wang Wenbin, recently arrived in Phnom Penh, eager to explore the Kingdom’s rich tapestry.

His enthusiasm echoed a recent AKP (Agence Kampuchea Presse) news report, which highlighted Cambodia’s growing appeal as a tourist destination.

Ambassador Wang said to become the 18th Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia echoed this sentiment on his official Facebook page, declaring, “Cambodia, a perfect destination to explore ancient temples, vibrant culture and charming nature.”

Ambassador Wang arrived in Phnom Penh on July 5th to begin his diplomatic mission. He highlighted the strong bond between China and Cambodia, quoting both President Xi Jinping and the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk to emphasize the deep friendship between the two nations.

He pledged to continue this tradition and build upon the “ironclad friendship” for the benefit of both peoples.

Cambodia’s tourism sector is booming, with a 22% increase in international arrivals during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. Chinese tourists make up a significant portion of this growth, with over 326,000 visiting in the first six months.

Cambodia’s Tourism Minister, HE. Sok Soken, sees this as a major opportunity, not just for tourism development, but for attracting investment in other sectors as well.

Tourism is a key pillar of the Cambodian economy, alongside garment exports, agriculture, and construction. The country also boasts several world-class tourist destinations.

Angkor Wat in Siem Reap recently ranked second in Tripadvisor’s “Best of Asia” awards, with Ta Prohm and Bayon temples also making the top 25. Phnom Penh’s Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum secured 22nd place.

Beyond the ancient temples, Cambodia offers a beautiful coastline stretching across four southwestern provinces. This 450-kilometer stretch offers pristine beaches for those seeking a different kind of Cambodian experience.

With its captivating blend of ancient temples, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty, Cambodia is poised to continue attracting visitors worldwide. Ambassador Wang’s arrival signifies China’s commitment to further strengthening ties and promoting this remarkable destination.
