PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s garment, footwear, and travel goods (GFT) sector generated nearly US$1.4 billion in export revenue in January, marking a steady increase compared to the same period last year, according to an official report released  last week.

The Kingdom’s GFT exports reached US$1,398 million in the first month of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 7.2 percent, the Ministry of Commerce reported.

Garment exports totaled US$1,014 million in January, reflecting a 6.7 percent rise from the previous year. Footwear exports saw stronger growth of 16.8 percent, amounting to US$196 million, while exports of travel goods and bags reached US$188 million, a modest increase of 1.1 percent.

As the nation’s largest foreign currency earner, the GFT industry accounted for 46.5 percent of Cambodia’s total export value, the report added.

Key destinations for Cambodian GFT products include the United States, the European Union, Canada, and Japan, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Data from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training indicate that the sector currently comprises more than 1,500 factories and branches, providing employment to over 900,000 workers—the majority of whom are women.
