Germany and Cambodia Pledge Closer Economic Cooperation and Increased Investment

PHNOM PENH — Cambodia and Germany have committed to elevating their bilateral economic relations following a high-level meeting between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Sun Chanthol, and a visiting German parliamentary delegation.

The delegation, led by Thomas Rachel, a member of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development, concluded a three-day official visit to the Kingdom yesterday. The meeting was also attended by German Ambassador H.E. Stefan Messerer.

H.E. Sun Chanthol commended the “traditional bonds of friendship” between the two countries, thanking Germany for its long-term role in Cambodia’s socio-economic progress.

In a candid exchange, the German delegation was briefed on Cambodia’s investment strategies, election preparations, and the country’s adaptation to shifting global dynamics. The Deputy Prime Minister outlined Cambodia’s competitive edge, emphasizing its political stability, business-friendly Law on Investment, and robust public-private dialogue platforms like the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF).

Furthermore, Cambodia showcased its major infrastructure modernizations, specifically pointing to the Sihanoukville Deep Sea Port expansion and the Funan Techo Canal project. These initiatives are expected to dramatically lower logistics costs and boost regional competitiveness.

The meeting wrapped up with both sides pledging close collaboration to actively drive German investment into Cambodia’s growing market.
