PHNOM PENH: The General Department of Taxation (GDT) has collected US$2,072 million as tax income in the first half of 2023, accounting for 58 percent of the yearly plan, according to a press statement released on Thursday.

In June alone, some US$245 million were gained as tax income, the source pointed out, adding that the GDT obtained US$39 million in taxes from e-commerce during the first six months of this year.

The GDT expects that the implementation of tax revenue management for 2023 will be able to achieve the plan stated in the Law on Financial Management 2023 of US$3,571 million, its Director General H.E. Kong Vibol said in the statement.

The country has two institutions responsible for collecting taxes. One is the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which focuses on interior taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value-added tax and property tax, and the other is the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), which collects taxes on goods entering and leaving the country.
