GDCE Reports 13.8% Revenue Increase in 2024, Despite Global Challenges

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) reported a strong tax revenue collection of US$2.59 billion in 2024, a 13.8% increase from the US$2.29 billion collected in 2023.

This announcement was made at the GDCE’s annual meeting on February 10th, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, and attended by GDCE Director General H.E. Kun Nhem and other officials.

H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth praised the GDCE’s leadership and staff for their impressive performance despite global challenges, including the slow economic recovery, the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and geopolitical tensions. He highlighted the significance of the GDCE’s achievement in the face of these obstacles.

For 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined several key priorities for the GDCE, focusing on maximizing revenue collection, preventing tax evasion, strengthening compliance and e-commerce management, modernizing the institution, fostering greater collaboration with government agencies and the private sector, and improving overall governance.

In Cambodia, tax collection is handled by two agencies: the GDCE, responsible for customs duties, and the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which collects internal taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value-added tax, and property tax.
