First shipment of Cambodian rice reaches Indonesia

PHNOM PENH: The first shipment of Cambodia’s milled rice arrived in Indonesia on Nov. 2 since the rice deal between the two countries was signed in August this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) said.

This is the result of the joint efforts and participation of the relevant ministries and institutions and the private sector, including the MAFF, the General Department of Customs and Excise, and the Cambodia Rice Federation in the negotiations for market opening, the source underlined.

Under the agreement, Cambodia and Indonesia have agreed on a rice deal of 125,000 tonnes, which is to be implemented immediately in 2023 by the private sector of both countries.

The two ASEAN nations also agreed on an annual quota of 250,000 tonnes of milled rice from Cambodia to Indonesia from next year.

Cambodia exported 456,581 tonnes of milled rice in the first nine months of 2023, generating a total revenue of US$327.4 million, pointed a report from the Cambodia Rice Federation.
