PHNOM PENH: Firefly, a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), will begin operating direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap, Cambodia’s cultural tourism hub, starting Nov. 27.
The airline will offer three weekly flights—every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday—between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, according to information from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) released on Nov. 18.
H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the SSCA, said the increasing number of international flights reflects Cambodia’s open-sky policy and expanding modern airport infrastructure.
“This is another new achievement under the leadership and vision of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and through the efforts of the SSCA, the Ministry of Tourism, and other relevant institutions,” he remarked.
Firefly currently operates flights within Malaysia and to regional destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.
With the arrival of Firefly, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport now serves 13 airlines. According to the SSCA, two more foreign airlines are expected to begin operations before the end of the year.
