Chinese Firm to Import 200,000 Tonnes of Dried Cassava from Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Chinese firm – COFCO Bio-Energy Co., Ltd – has reached a new agreement with a local company – Hang Harvest Agriculture Co., Ltd. – on the import of some 200,000 tonnes of Cambodian dried cassava.

The two companies signed a purchasing and selling agreement for Cambodian dried cassava chips, Phase 2 in Beihai city, China’s Guangxi Autonomous Region late last week.

H.E. Lim Lork Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, presided over the signing ceremony.

The event was attended by representatives from the Commercial Department of Guangxi Autonomous Region, the Cambodian Commercial Liaison Office in Nanning, the People’s Government of Beihai, relevant Beihai authorities, the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank of Cambodia, as well as cassava buyers and sellers from Cambodia and China.

This agreement will help strengthen and expand trade cooperation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China, while also promoting Cambodian cassava exports to the Chinese market, the ministry said.

The 5,000 tonnes of dried cassava from phase 1 of the purchase agreement arrived in Beihai city, with the handover ceremony taking place at the same event of the signing of phase 2 agreement.
