China’s SINOMACH Eyes Major Investment in Cambodian Cashew Processing

PHNOM PENH – A business delegation from China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) has engaged in discussions with Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, H.E. Hem Vanndy, to explore a significant investment in the country’s cashew processing industry, according to the AKP’s release yesterday.

The meeting highlighted SINOMACH’s interest in establishing new processing facilities and bringing advanced machinery to Cambodia. This move aligns with the Cambodian government’s vision to transform the country into the “king of cashew” by developing its processing and value chain capabilities.

The delegation, which included a representative from Kampu Nuts Agro Product, expressed that the investment would enable them to process Cambodia’s high-quality cashew nuts domestically, directly serving the strong demand in China.

Minister Hem Vanndy welcomed the proposal and affirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the development of the cashew sector. He also encouraged the company to introduce modern techniques while upholding quality standards, assuring them of the ministry’s support.

This potential investment comes as Cambodia’s cashew sector is experiencing a period of robust growth. According to the Cambodian Cashew Association, Cambodia’s cashew exports generated over $1 billion in 2024, a notable 26.15% increase compared to the previous year.

This interest from a major Chinese state-owned enterprise like SINOMACH underscores the growing international confidence in Cambodia’s agricultural potential and the government’s efforts to attract foreign direct investment in key sectors.
