CDC requests JETRO to expand scope of investment cooperation

PHNOM PENH: On May 10, 2024, Senior Official of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has urged for more cooperation from the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) to extend the scope of cooperation on investment to be more active and comprehensive.

The request was made by H.E. SUN Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the CDC, while he was meeting with Mr. Ishiguro Norihiko, Chairman and CEO of JETRO, in Tokyo of Japan on May 9.

The CDC vice president also encouraged the JETRO side to share experience on successful establishment of JETRO’s business facilitation centre, so that the CDC could get more input to advance the quality of its investment facilitation provision.

On the occasion, H.E. SUN Chanthol also updated the Japanese side about the progress in solving problems raised by Japanese companies during a Cambodia-Japan Joint Committee Meeting under the Agreement for Liberalisation, Promotion and Protection of Investment.

He further thanked JETRO for its support to investment promotion and attraction activities initiated by Cambodia.

For his part, Mr. Ishiguro Norihiko agreed in principle with the above-said request with his hope that, under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia, existing Japanese investment projects in Cambodia would continue to gradually expand, and Japanese investors wanting to expand their markets in the future would target Cambodia as an investment hub.
