PHNOM PENH: The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved on April 28 the first phase of the Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) Cambodia Regional Connectivity Improvement (CRCI) Programme, with an overall US$300 million International Development Association financing envelope.

The first phase, approved at US$150 million, will improve resilient transport connectivity along sections of the Asian Highway 21 (AH21) corridor and strengthen national logistics management capacity, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

The programme is expected to benefit more than 1.6 million people, including road users and communities living along the corridor.

By improving road conditions and logistics systems, CRCI aims to support job creation, expand access to markets and services, and catalyse private investment in sectors such as logistics, agribusiness, transport services, and tourism.

“This programme reflects the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and ensuring that our transport infrastructure better serves both people and businesses,” said H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport.

“Upgrading sections of national road along Asian Highway 21 will not just improve the connectivity among the country but also enhance logistics efficiency, reduce transport costs, and enable communities, farmers, and traders to access markets more effectively, both domestically and across borders,” he said.

The AH21 corridor provides important east-west inland connectivity between Cambodia and Viet Nam, and links Cambodia’s northeastern provinces to domestic markets and regional trade routes.

Phase 1 will focus on 247-kilometre corridor infrastructure improvements alongside foundational activities to strengthen institutional capacity in logistics and trade facilitation.

Phase 2 will complete the remaining 145-kilometre corridor sections, scale-up trade facilitation support, and enhance domestic access through rural road improvements.

“The World Bank is committed to standing with Cambodia as it strengthens the infrastructure and systems needed for inclusive growth and quality jobs,” said Mr. Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President for East Asia and Pacific.

“Through investments in regional road corridors and stronger trade facilitation and logistics, this programme will benefit more than 1.6 million people and help catalyse private investment and cross-border economic activity, particularly in agribusiness, cold chains, transport services, and tourism,” he said.

The post World Bank Group to Power Cambodia’s Transport Transformation, Unlocking Jobs and Growth first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Construction of Section II of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, spanning from Prek Po in Kandal province to the sea in Kep province, officially broke ground this morning.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held in Borey Chulsa district, Takeo province, was presided over by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wenbin.

The Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project is a landmark initiative in Cambodia’s waterway transport sector, aiming to connect the Mekong River system to maritime routes over a total length of 172.6 kilometres. The project is divided into two sections.

Section I covers 21 kilometres, while Section II extends over 151.6 kilometres. The waterway will be developed largely along natural and ancient channels that date back to the Funan period.

Construction of Section II is expected to take 36 months, with a total investment of approximately US$1.17 billion. The section begins at Prek Po on the Bassac River, continues through Prek Ta Hing in Koh Thom district, and extends to the sea in Kep province. The waterway will pass through and connect four provinces: Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep.

According to H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the project reflects the strong commitment and collective efforts of the Royal Government and the Cambodian people. He described it as a testament to national solidarity and determination, aimed at supporting long-term economic and social development in the Kingdom.

The post Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project – Section II Breaks Ground first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

On the afternoon of Friday, March 6, 2026, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, hosted a high-level delegation from the World Bank. Led by Private Sector Development Specialist Mr. Ramprakash Sethuramasubbu and Senior Program Manager Mr. Quan Zhao, the meeting served as a vital platform for a courtesy call and a strategic working session.

During the discussions, both sides highlighted their excellent history of cooperation, with a particular focus on the World Bank’s recent efforts to enhance Cambodia’s private sector competitiveness. This progress has been driven by collaborative preparations for the WTO Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement, or IFDA, in partnership with the International Trade Centre. The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of a needs assessment workshop aimed at studying the agreement’s content and sector-by-sector requirements to ensure a highly effective execution.

Stretching across a vast landscape bordering Vietnam, it is a world away from the bustling streets of Phnom Penh. Mondulkiri is a cultural mosaic. While the population is small, its identity is mighty.

More than 80% of the residents belong to tribal minorities, predominantly the Phnong people. Within their traditional homes, history is kept in clay and bronze. You’ll find gongs and rice-wine jars—some over a thousand years old—which remain the most valuable spiritual and material possessions of the community.

In a courtesy call with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, the historic three-point-two-four billion dollar deal between The Boeing Company and Air Cambodia took center stage.

The agreement secures ten Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for the Kingdom’s national carrier, with an option for ten more. For Cambodia, this is a strategic leap toward modernizing its aviation sector and enhancing global connectivity. For the United States, as highlighted by Deputy Secretary Landau, this deal is a testament to American excellence in aerospace, supporting an estimated twelve thousand high-quality jobs for American workers.

Did you know that in just thirty days, Cambodia shipped nearly one point four billion dollars worth of goods to the global market? We are talking about the GFT sector—Garments, Footwear, and Travel goods. New data for January 2026 confirms that this industry isn’t just a part of the economy; it is its primary engine.

According to the latest reports, GFT exports saw a seven point two percent jump compared to the same time last year. Despite global economic shifts, Cambodia’s manufacturing resilience is on full display. Let’s look at the heavy hitters: Garments alone brought in over one billion dollars in January, while Footwear exports surged by an impressive sixteen point eight percent.

But why does this matter to the average person? Because the GFT sector accounts for nearly half of Cambodia’s total export revenue. It’s the nation’s largest foreign currency earner, and it supports a massive network of over fifteen hundred factories nationwide. But the most important number isn’t the dollars—it’s the people.
