PHNOM PENH: Seventeen new factory projects, approved in early September, are set to significantly bolster Cambodia’s labor market by creating 6,760 new jobs. This major investment push will help address employment needs for local residents, particularly for workers returning from Thailand.
The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) reported that the projects span seven provinces and cover a diverse range of industries.

Kampong Speu received the largest share with eight investment projects, creating 3,453 jobs. These new factories will focus on fruit processing, toy manufacturing, tools and accessories, lighting equipment, household electrical appliances, metal products, all kinds of plastic consumer goods and festive materials, decorative lights, and cardboard production.
In Svay Rieng province, three investment projects will add 1,047 jobs. These factories are set to assemble exercise machines and equipment, manufacture recreational boats and kayaks, and produce electrical and electronic components.

Battambang province secured two projects—a fruit processing factory and a metal processing factory—which together will create 1,194 jobs.
The remaining four provinces each received one investment project. Kampong Chhnang will see a new factory producing decorative materials for festivals, generating 527 jobs. Takeo province’s project focuses on producing electrical lighting equipment, household electrical appliances, and storage boxes, which will create 343 jobs.
Tbong Khmum province welcomed a rubber processing factory, adding 475 jobs. Finally, Koh Kong province received an investment to establish a chemical manufacturing plant, resulting in 106 jobs.
Collectively, these 17 factories provide a crucial opportunity for 6,760 people, effectively providing employment solutions for returning migrants and local communities alike.
