PHNOM PENH-On the morning of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met with a high-level delegation from The Export-Import Bank of China (CEXIM), led by Chairman of the Board Mr. Chen Huaiyu.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation to advance strategic infrastructure projects across Cambodia. Accompanying the Deputy Prime Minister were key leaders, including H.E. Kong Vimean, Secretary General of the CDC General Secretariat, along with senior transport and maritime officials.
During the discussion, H.E. Sun Chanthol expressed deep gratitude for China’s ongoing support as an “Ironclad Friend” in building Cambodia’s physical infrastructure. He provided an update on the progress of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, outlining plans for an economic corridor designed to enhance transport competitiveness and logistics while protecting local biodiversity.
Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted upcoming investment roadshows in Xiamen and Shenzhen and endorsed CEXIM’s initiative to co-organize a joint investment forum targeting the canal’s economic corridor. He reaffirmed the Royal Government’s dedication to improving the domestic business environment to establish Cambodia as a top investment destination in ASEAN.
In response, CEXIM Chairman Chen Huaiyu commended Cambodia’s rapid growth, political stability, and macroeconomic resilience. Recalling prior meetings in Xiamen, he renewed CEXIM’s strong interest in the Funan Techo project following recent detailed studies.
Emphasizing CEXIM’s two-decade history of supporting Cambodia’s economic development, Mr. Chen underscored the high-level political trust between the two nations. The session concluded with a joint commitment to expand financial cooperation, attract strategic investments, and drive sustainable socio-economic development for both countries.
