Cambodia’s top 5 infrastructure projects to follow in 2023

PHNOM PENH: As Cambodia’s economy recovers in the post-covid period, road infrastructure is an important economic artery. Despite the fact that Cambodia has only recently recovered from Covid, infrastructure development activities in 2022 were brisk, with numerous projects underway, completed, and officially launched.

Cambodia has been modernizing its transportation infrastructure and developing a better logistics system to achieve its national development goals of becoming a high-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income by 2050.

More major projects will be launched this year to meet the needs and development of the country. ESTATEDIA will take you to five major projects scheduled for completion in 2023.

 

  1. Aray Ksat bridge worth more than $245 million

The Project is under the Coordinating Framework for the Concessional Loan of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund for 2022–2026 signed in early December by Mr. PARK Heung-kyeong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, and Mr. Prak Sokhon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia with an amount of US $ 1,500 million

  1. Phnom Penh’s first cable-stayed bridge project

the construction site of the concrete bridge of the Russey Keo cable across the Tonle Sap is in progress​ and is to reach 89% as of January 25, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed as planned during the upcoming Khmer New Year 2023.

  1. Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway

The 2022 ASEAN summit was held in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, with a China delegation led by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. Chinese Premier announced at the event that Beijing has approved Chinese investment in major infrastructure projects in the ASEAN region.

Among the two mega projects approved, are a US$1.6 billion expressway to be built from Phnom Penh to Bavet on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border, and financial support for the rail link between Phnom Penh, Bangkok, and Vientiane, Laos, from which a high-speed rail link to China has already been built.

  1. New Siem Reap’s ring road projects worth $140 million

In late 2022, the construction of the 3rd ring road reached 77%, including the bridge over the Bassac River and the National Road 2 section, and 88% on the National Road 22 section.

  1. Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport project

The Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd (AIAI) began construction on Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport on March 15, 2020, on an area of 700.06 hectares with an investment of approximately $ 880 million.

The international airport construction schedule is to complete and test the first run on March 30, 2023.
