PHNOM PENH: At the end of October 2021, 1,849 factories were operating in Cambodia’s capital and province, an increase of 327 factories, or 21.48%, over the previous five years (2017-2021). In 2017, only 1,522 factories were operating in the last five years.
According to a report presented by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation at a press conference on August 11 at the Council of Ministers on “Achievements of the Past Five Years,” This period (2017-2021) have 962 factories. In addition, 692 factories have closed in the last five years (2017-October 2021).
By the end of October 2021, these factories employed a total of 970,447 people, including 747,700 women (77.04%), a decrease of 11,716 workers (1.19%). For the previous five years, the total labor force in 2017 was 982,203.
In particular, total investment capital was more than 13,474 million US dollars at the end of October 2021, an increase of more than 4,064 million US dollars, or 43.19%, compared to the last five years in 2017. The total investment exceeds $9,410 million.
Furthermore, the total production value from January to September 2021 is more than 5.933 million US dollars, including the value of domestic products (over 1,560 million US dollars) and exports (over 4.373 million US dollars).
