PHNOM PENH: During his visit to China, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen requested that China Metro Group Limited study the investment project of a monorail from Phnom Penh to the new Phnom Penh International Airport and other lines in the capital, which is congested with traffic.
Three companies paid a courtesy call to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the afternoon of February 9, 2023, in Beijing for a three-day official visit to China.
After investing in the construction of more than 2,000 kilometers of road and bridge in the Kingdom, three large Chinese companies have expressed an interest in continuing their investment in infrastructure development in Cambodia.
During the talks, the three Chinese companies informed the Prime Minister about the construction and commissioning of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, which was organized under the Public-Private Partnerships, which could lead to the implementation of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway construction project in mid-2023 and scheduled to be completed in 2027, in parallel with the construction of the Ho Chi Minh-Mok Bai Expressway, which is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
As a result, the three companies sought Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s assistance to ensure the success of their investment plans. The Prime Minister, Samdech Techo, praised the three companies for their joint commitment to investing in quality infrastructure construction in Cambodia.
In terms of the monorail, the Premier directed China Metro Group Limited to research monorail lines connecting Phnom Penh to the new international airport in Kandal province, as well as another line in the capital that is experiencing heavy traffic congestion.
