Cambodia ready to share experience with WTO accession

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia is ready to welcome any request to share her experience on the accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The readiness was emphasized by H.E. Sok Sopheak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, while attending the 12th China Round Table on WTO Accessions in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Themed “Arab Perspectives on WTO Accessions and the Multilateral Trading System,” the event took place from Feb. 24 to 25, on the margins of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13).

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the experiences and accession of Arab countries to the WTO, according to a news release of the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.

Addressing the event, H.E. Sok Sopheak shared Cambodia’s efforts in the process of membership, and the challenges and opportunities gained as a member of the WTO, including economic growth and stability, trade, market access, investment attraction, poverty reduction, and living standard improvement.

H.E. Secretary of State also touched on the access to technical assistance and capacity building from a multilateral trading system based on the rule of law, liberalization, as well as the implementation of agreements and obligations under the WTO framework, and legal and policy reform to ensure a sustainable and resilient trading system.
