PHNOM PENH (AKP) — In a major stride toward transforming the nation’s agricultural landscape, 32 modern agricultural communities have officially united to establish the “Union of Kampuchea Modern Agricultural Community.”
According to an AKP report, the landmark union was formalized on July 1, 2026, with full backing from the Royal Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), which serves as the central coordinating body for farming communities nationwide.
The core vision behind consolidating these scattered communities into a singular “Union” is to phase out traditional, small-scale farming. By merging resources, Cambodia aims to build robust, large-scale economic enterprises capable of securing reliable market connectivity, improving financial management, and driving forward national economic policies.
Speaking at the official recognition ceremony, H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, emphasized that the union will fortify existing agricultural frameworks.
“The establishment of the Union of Kampuchea Modern Agricultural Community is designed to ensure seamless market connectivity, sound financial management, technical coordination, and strategic investment planning,” the Minister stated.
Cambodia exported a total of 14.9 million tonnes of agricultural products in 2025, marking a 27.83 percent year-on-year increase, generating approximately US$5 billion in revenue, according to a report released reports by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Key Benefits of the New Union
The AKP release highlighted several critical advantages that the newly formed union brings to Cambodia’s agricultural sector:
Economies of Scale: By bringing together 32 distinct communities, the union creates massive production volumes. This strengthens the farmers’ bargaining power in the market, drastically reduces production costs, and makes the sector highly attractive to major international investors.
Effective Supply Chain Management: The union allows for centralized oversight, ensuring that everything from harvesting to distribution is managed efficiently.
Technology & Standardization: Members of the Union of Kampuchea Modern Agricultural Community will be able to easily share modern agricultural techniques. This ensures that Cambodian produce meets the strict quality, scale, and volume standards demanded by global markets.
Preventing Overproduction: To protect farmers from market crashes caused by supply gluts, the union will oversee collective strategic planning, coordinating crop rotation and planting schedules based strictly on actual market demands.
Agriculture remains one of the four key pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy. The Royal Government of Cambodia has announced the implementation of a new strategic policy aimed at upgrading agriculture from household-based production to commercial farming, while increasing farmers’ incomes through value-added products.
