Cambodia Eyes Agricultural Export Opportunities with Indian Market

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia is seeking opportunities to export more agricultural products to India, the world’s most populous country.

According to H.E. Khim Finan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), India represents a promising market, particularly for Cambodian cashew nuts.

He said Cambodia is exploring the possibility of exporting cashew nuts, milled rice, and several spices, including turmeric powder, to the Indian market. The Kingdom is capable of producing up to one million tonnes of cashew nuts annually.

Despite India’s vast market of 1.4 billion people, trade volume between the two countries remains limited. From January to August 2025, bilateral trade reached only US$248 million, an increase of 2.67 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of this total, Cambodia exported goods worth over US$90 million to India, a decrease of 23.35 percent, while imports from India amounted to US$158 million, up 27.25 percent.
