PHNOM PENH: Cambodia exported US$100.5 million worth of dry rubber in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, up 8 percent from US$92.9 million recorded in the same period last year, a report of the General Directorate of Rubber of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries showed.
A total of 69,322 tonnes of Cambodian dry rubber were exported in the above-mentioned period, a year-on-year increase of 5.1 percent from 65,921 tonnes in the same period of 2023, it pointed out.
Dry rubber costs averagely US$1,450 per tonnes in the first three months of 2024, 41 dollars higher than that of the same period last year, stated the report.
The country exports the commodity mainly to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and China.
According to the report, Cambodia has so far planted rubber trees on a total area of 407,172 hectares, of which 320,184 hectares, or 79 percent, are old enough to be tapped.
