Cambodia Exports Nearly US$97 Million worth of Fresh Bananas in First Seven Months

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has exported some 143,481 tonnes of fresh yellow bananas in the first seven months of this year, a decline by 20.59 percent over the same period in 2023, a report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) showed.

The banana exports generated a total income of more than US$96,7 million, the source pointed out, stressing that China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam are the major importers of Cambodia’s bananas.

H.E. Khim Finan, Spokesperson of MAFF told AKP on Aug. 21 that climate change and competitions from neighbouring countries had dragged down Cambodia’s fresh banana exports to international markets.

“For these reasons, Cambodia’s fresh banana exports to international markets have dropped by over 20 percent, but we expect things to improve next year,” H.E. Khim Finan added.
