PHNOM PENH – Cambodia is rapidly expanding its digital footprint by forging powerful new partnerships on the national, regional, and global stages, according to an AKP release today.
At the center of this push was H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, who led a series of high-level bilateral meetings during the second day of the “Global Dialogue on AI Governance.” The discussions aimed to spotlight Cambodia’s tech achievements and weave the nation deeper into the international digital ecosystem.
In a pivotal meeting with H.E. Amandeep Singh Gill, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Envoy on Technology, Minister Chea Vandeth highlighted Cambodia’s aggressive strategies to boost domestic digital literacy. He showcased key initiatives such as the Techo Digital Talent Scholarship to nurture local tech experts, the rollout of community tech centers, and the installation of primary school computer labs to bridge the digital divide. Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the Royal Government’s massive public infrastructure investments, anchored by the successful state-backed verification platform, verify.gov.kh.
H.E. Gill highly praised Cambodia’s digital momentum and the success of its verification system. In recognition of these strides, the UN envoy extended two major invitations to Cambodia, proposing that the nation feature its verification platform on the official UN Digital Cooperation Portal and co-chair the prestigious UN Open Source Week in 2027.
Looking to share Cambodia’s digital transformation blueprint, H.E. Chea Vandeth held individual talks with digital ministers from five African nations, meeting with leaders from Gabon, Chad, Mozambique, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast. During these sessions, the Cambodian Minister formally invited his counterparts to participate in FrancoTech, a major technology event happening alongside the 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia is set to host in late 2026.
The diplomatic push continued with H.E. Ms. Deema Al Yahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO). Acknowledging Cambodia’s rising reputation in global tech innovation, Ms. Al Yahya expressed the DCO’s strong interest in inviting Cambodia to become a formal member of the organization.
Cambodian officials emphasized that this flurry of digital diplomacy directly supports the Royal Government’s “Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1.” By building a more resilient national digital ecosystem, Cambodia aims to secure its future while playing a meaningful role in regional and global digital integration.
