Cambodia and China trade surpasses $5B in five months

PHNOM PENH: According to the Ministry of Commerce, the total value of bilateral trade between Cambodia and China reached over $5 billion in the first five months of 2023.

Cambodia’s exports to China include products such as garments, footwear, travel accessories, bags, and some agricultural products. In return, China imports major commodities such as automobiles, machinery, electronics, tires, and plastics.

Cambodia has made progress in opening up new markets, including agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, Cambodia-China Bilateral, and Korea Bilateral Free Trade Agreements, Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Cambodia and the United Arab Emirates, and Trade Partnership Agreements with other countries.

Minister of Commerce, H.E. Pan Sosak, attributed Cambodia’s progress to the support and cooperation of Chinese friends.

The bilateral free trade agreement between the two countries, effective from January 1, 2023, is expected to further increase the volume of trade and Chinese investment in Cambodia in line with the Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Cooperation and Diamond Cooperation Framework agreed upon in February 2023.
