Cambodia Aims to Boost Cassava Exports with Commercial Production Focus

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, H.E. Dith Tina, has urged the Cambodia Cassava Association to prioritize commercial cassava production and expand local processing capabilities to enhance export volumes.

During a meeting with Chray Son, President of the Cassava Federation of Cambodia, on January 6th, Minister Tina emphasized the need for a strategic plan to maintain market stability. He encouraged the federation to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address challenges and maximize benefits for farmers.

The Ministry is actively promoting modern agricultural communities with defined production plans, consistent supply chains, adherence to technical standards, and secure market access through contract farming.

Cassava is identified as a key agricultural export alongside rice, cashew nuts, corn, longan, banana, mango, and pepper, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has established the National Cassava Policy 2020-2025, officially disseminated in January 2021 following government approval in August 2020.

This policy aims to position Cambodia as a reliable global producer, processor, and supplier of cassava products, driving export growth.

Official reports indicate that Cambodia exported US$622 million worth of cassava to international markets in the first eleven months of 2024, reflecting a 13.42% year-on-year increase.
