Cambodia Accepts Invitation to Join Board of Peace

PHNOM PENH: In response to an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump, Cambodia will join the Board of Peace, said Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei announced Cambodia’s participation in the initiative this morning during a courtesy call by Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command.

“This demonstrates Cambodia’s goodwill and strong commitment to global peace,” the Prime Minister underlined.

In a letter dated Jan. 16, 2026, President Trump—who will serve as Chairman of the Board of Peace—formally invited Cambodia to join the initiative as a Founding Member State and to become a party to the Charter of the Board of Peace. He noted that participating countries would share responsibility for promoting long-term peace, security, and prosperity.

The letter further stated that each member state may designate an authorised representative to attend and participate in meetings of the Board. The Comprehensive Plan and the Charter of the Board of Peace were enclosed with the invitation and are open for signature and ratification.

President Trump also expressed his expectation of working closely with Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Cambodia in pursuit of lasting world peace, prosperity, and global stability.
