PHNOM PENH: Brazil plans to establish an embassy in Cambodia in early 2024 to attract more investment and trade, according to Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.
Vieira made the announcement during a meeting with Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Dith Tina on October 11, 2023.
The two ministers also discussed ways to promote bilateral agricultural cooperation, enhance trade, and ensure food security and environmental sustainability.
Tina highlighted the potential of Cambodia’s agricultural sector, such as paddy rice, cashew, cassava, and rubber. He also noted that Cambodia is a member of ASEAN with a wide market and has trade agreements with China, which presents an opportunity for investment in processing for export.
Vieira said Brazil is interested in increasing relations with Cambodia in all fields, especially investment and trade. He also informed Tina about the planned official visit to Cambodia by the Brazilian agriculture minister in 2024.
The establishment of a Brazilian embassy in Cambodia is a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. It is also a sign of Brazil’s growing interest in Southeast Asia and its commitment to expanding its economic ties with the region.
