Australia to continue supporting and cooperating with Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Australia will continue to provide its support to Cambodia and cooperate with the Kingdom in various domains including health, economy, security, anti-terrorism, human rights, democracy, and so on.

The continued support and cooperation were reaffirmed by newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Justin Kevin Whyatt while paying a courtesy call on Cambodian National Assembly (NA) President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin at the NA Palace yesterday.

The new diplomat congratulated Cambodia on its progress and successful control of COVID-19 as well as its success in organizing the 43rd General Assembly of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2022 and the visit of Samdech Heng Samrin to Australia to attend the Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) in 2020.

In reply, the Cambodian NA president extended a warm welcome to H.E. Justin Kevin Whyatt, affirming the NA’s full support and cooperation for the success of his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

Samdech Heng Samrin thanked the Government and people of Australia for their contribution to the peace-seeking process as well as for their assistance to the development of Cambodia, especially in the fight against COVID-19.

He also recalled the close cooperation, exchange of visits, sharing of experience, and mutual support at interparliamentary forums in the region and the world between the Cambodian and Australian parliaments.

Samdech Heng Samrin asked the Australian side to continue its support for Cambodia through the promotion of bilateral trade, investment, tourism, and human resource development by increasing scholarships for Cambodian students to pursue their studies in Australia.

Cambodia and Australia established their diplomatic ties in 1952. Since then, their relations and cooperation have been tightened in almost all sectors.
