PHNOM PENH: On November 20, 2024, AEON Specialized Bank (Cambodia) Plc. Chairman Toshiya Shimakata recently met with National Bank of Cambodia Governor Chea Serey to discuss the bank’s progress and future plans in Cambodia.
Shimakata expressed optimism about the bank’s performance and outlined a vision for further expansion. He also highlighted the potential for cross-border payment cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, leveraging the National Bank of Cambodia’s Bakong system.
Governor Serey emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance and encouraged detailed discussions with the National Bank of Cambodia’s experts to ensure smooth operations. She also commended AEON’s past social contributions and urged continued involvement, particularly in financial literacy initiatives.
AEON, a global retail giant with a rich history dating back to 1758, has made significant investments in Cambodia. AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. has poured approximately $706 million into three major shopping malls:
AEON Mall 1: Located on Samdech Sothearos Road in Chamkar Mon District.
AEON Mall 2: Situated in Sen Sok District and opened in May 2018.
AEON Mall 3: The largest of the three, located in Meanchey District and opened in April 2023.
