PHNOM PENH: SunRice Group, a leading Australian branded food exporter, has expressed strong interest in investing in Cambodia’s organic rice production chain.
This exciting development came to light during a meeting between SunRice Group CEO, Mr. Paul Serra, and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne yesterday.
SunRice Group, already the first Australian company to import Cambodian rice into Australia and New Zealand, recognizes Cambodia’s potential in the agricultural sector. They are impressed by Cambodia’s world-renowned rice, its competitive young workforce, stable electricity prices, and well-developed transportation and logistics infrastructure. These factors make Cambodia an attractive location for investment.
Highlighting their commitment to strengthening ties with Cambodia, SunRice Group expressed a particular interest in investing in the processing of organic rice for export.
The Cambodian Prime Minister welcomed this initiative and reaffirmed the government’s focus on the agricultural sector. He emphasized the government’s efforts to support farmers through the deployment of agricultural experts at the local level.
Additionally, the Prime Minister pointed to ongoing investments in transportation infrastructure, logistics networks, and clean energy development – all designed to create a more competitive business environment with lower shipping costs. He concluded by inviting SunRice Group to visit Cambodia and explore specific investment opportunities with relevant ministries and institutions.
