China’s Support Inseparable from Cambodia’s Development, Says Deputy PM Vongsey Vissoth

BEIJING – Partnership remains the absolute core factor for Cambodia’s development, and the nation’s rapid socio-economic progress over the past two decades cannot be separated from China’s vital cooperation and support, according to H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Council of Ministers.

Delivering the opening speech on behalf of developing countries at the 2026 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum, held under the theme “Uniting Global Efforts to Advance Poverty Reduction,” His Excellency emphasized the deep-rooted impact of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

He underscored that Cambodia’s landmark socio-economic achievements over the last twenty years are a direct result of strong, reliable international alliances, with China playing a central role in that advancement.

Looking to the future, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed firm confidence that the new phase of bilateral relations under the “Diamond Cooperation” framework will grow even stronger and more active. He noted that this evolving partnership is poised to yield highly fruitful results, directly driving poverty reduction and development across Cambodia while building a resilient, year-round “community of shared destiny” for both nations in the new era.

This high-level diplomatic messaging aligns closely with Cambodia’s current economic momentum. Backed heavily by Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI)—which currently ranks as Cambodia’s leading source of foreign investment—the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) recently greenlit 42 new investment projects totaling approximately US$222 million.

This robust influx of capital, paired with rising domestic Cambodian enterprise growth, continues to anchor the long-term poverty reduction and development goals highlighted by H.E. Vongsey Vissoth on the global stage.
