Cambodia Busts Online Scam Operation in Sihanoukville, 64 Chinese Nationals Arrested

PHNOM PENH-Local authorities in Cambodia’s coastal province of Preah Sihanouk have raided an online scam operation operating out of a local casino, arresting 64 Chinese nationals and seizing hundreds of electronic devices, provincial authorities reported Monday.

The crackdown, conducted on May 23, was led by the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administrative Unified Command in cooperation with the provincial prosecutor’s office. Law enforcement officials targeted the “Ying Huang” casino located in Village 4, Sangkat 4, Sihanoukville.

During the operation, police confiscated: 428 mobile phones; 37 computers; Multiple pieces of related telecommunications equipment.

All 64 suspects arrested in the raid are Chinese men.

They are currently being held at the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Gendarmerie Headquarters for questioning. Case files are being prepared to forward the suspects to the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court for legal prosecution.

The provincial administration stated that authorities will continue to aggressively investigate and dismantle online fraud networks to entirely eliminate cybercrime operations within the province.
